The intention of our Code of Conduct is to make our school a safe, caring, and orderly environment for learning and working and it applies to behavior both on school premises and during off-site activities that are organized or sponsored by the school.  Our Code of Conduct is produced with recognition that there is a need for an appropriate balance between individual and collective rights, freedoms, and responsibilities and in reference to the British Columbia Human Rights CodeIn accordance with sections 7 and 8 of the Human Rights Code, discrimination based on race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, religion, marital status, family status, physical or mental disability, gender, age and sexual orientation will not be tolerated. Anti-bullying measures will ensure all students, regardless of their sex, race, religion, culture, sexual orientation and gender identity or expression, enjoy a safe, inclusive and welcoming learning environment.

 

At Carisbrooke we have a progression of expectations held for students as they become older, more mature, and move through successive grades.  Furthermore, considerations may apply to students of special populations who are unable to comply with expectations due to having a disability of an intellectual, physical, sensory, emotional, or behavioural nature. 

Conduct by any person that adversely affects our school's climate and operation may be considered a breach of the Code of Conduct warranting appropriate forms of intervention. This includes, but is not limited to, behaviours that interfere with the learning or emotional well-being of others, acts such as bullying, harassment or violence, illegal acts such as theft of or damage to property, and behavior that intimidates or exposes students or staff to physical harm, ridicule, hatred or contempt, even if the incidents begins outside the school building and grounds or school day. 

Consequences for the person who breaches the Code of Conduct will take into account age and maturity, and whenever possible, be restorative in nature rather than punitive.  School officials may have a responsibility to advise other parties of serious breaches of the Code of Conduct.  The North Vancouver Board of Education will take all reasonable steps to prevent retaliation against any person who has made a complaint of a breach of a Code of Conduct.
